Srinagar: A record production of 7,000 quintals Mushkibudji- an aromatic variant of paddy has been achieved during the current fiscal.
This was disclosed by the Chief Agriculture Officer, Anantnag, Aijaz Ahmad Raina  during the flag-off ceremony of 25 progressive farmers of the district on a three day training cum exposure tour.
He said that 2500 kanals of land at Sagam and adjacent villages have been brought under the cultivation of this high end paddy variety with an amount of RS. 45 lakh have been paid to the farmers for procurement of the crop during the year 2017-18.
Adding that a record production of 7000 quintals have been achieved in the year 2018-19.
The District Development Commissioner, Anantnag Mohammad Younis Malik along with  DM NABARD  and other senior officers flagged off the farmers from GDC Boys Khannabal.
The programme has been devised exclusively for Mushqbudji farmers of Sagam and adjacent villages by NABARD under its Capacity Building and Adoption of Technology Transfer Scheme.
The group comprising of 25 farmers who would be provided the training at Rice Research Centre and SKUAST Shalimar on best practices and use of latest farming techniques for enhancing productivity.
On the occasion senior NABARD official informed that NABARD has already provided support to these farmers by sanctioning a Farm Producers Organisation of these growers under companies act which would mitigate the issues of marketing.
DDC Malik, interacted with the group regarding the issues faced by farming community and discussed the possible solutions. He urged the farmers to gain maximum know-how  from the visit and focus on various technological interventions to boot their economy.
