Srinagar: To mark the ‘World Soil Day’ and ‘Pre Rabi Campaign’, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nyoma, SKUAST-K, organised an awareness programme

Dr. Sonam Spaldon (Scientist, Vegetable Science/Incharge Soil Lab) while speaking on the occasion said, ‘ Farmer should be the solution to soil pollution’ campaign for 2018, aims to raise awareness and call people to stop soil pollution.”

“ These days pollution is a worry and soil is also affected. Soil pollution is a hidden danger that lurks beneath our feet. 1/3 of our global soils are already degraded. Yet we risk losing more due to this hidden danger. Soil pollution can be invisible and seems far away but everyone, everywhere is affected. With a growing population expected to reach 9 billion by 2050, soil pollution is a worldwide problem which degrades our soils, poisons the food we eat, the water we drink and the air we breathe.”

Dr. Maheshwar Singh, PC/Head, KVK Nyoma, gave a detailed presentation about the package and practices of various rabi crops that are actually grown in summer in Changthang. Dr. Anwar Hussain (Scientist, Food Technology/PHT), spoke about the ill effects of the food materials available in the market that are procured from outside the region. Later the attendees discussed about various problems being faced by them in the field of agriculture.
