Srinagar, Aug 4: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) today organized a Conference on the Poultry Sector at SKICC.
Khursheed Ahmad Ganai, Advisor to the Governor of J&K was the Chief Guest and Asgar Hassan Samoon, Principal Secretary Animal Husbandry, Mr. Shailendra Kumar, Principal Secretary Industries and Commerce Department and Mr. Parvez Ahmad Chairman and CEO JK Bank were the Guests of Honor at the function.
Mr. Khursheed while appreciating the role of KCC&I in drawing focus to this sector assured of all support on behalf of the Government for making this sector self sufficient and not dependant on imports only. He said that the Government had already circulated a Policy Paper and would discuss the same with all stakeholders before new policies are finalized.
Mr. Samoon, Commissioner, Animal Husbandry, Govt. of J&K in his address welcomed the holding of this conference and assured all the help required and asks for insurance to be provided to the Poultry farmers.
Mr. Shailendra, Principal Secretary, Industries & Commerce, J&K Govt. assured that except for farming every other aspect is included under Industries and look for convergence with the Animal Husbandry Department. He suggested the KCC&I to make an appropriate modal.
Mr. Parvez, Chairman J&K Bank assured full support to this sector which has a potential to give employment of 140,000 people and also assured that the bank would declare this industry as priority sector.
Mr. Javid Ahmad Tenga President, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry termed the Conference a success. He stated that the KCC&I had organized the Conference to bridge the gap between stakeholders with the objective of bringing all stakeholders together for an exchange of ideas and collect suggestions and recommendations for bringing this industry in the priority investment sectors of the State. The KCC&I presented a Draft Paper on the Poultry Sector and also aired a short documentary on the local poultry industry.
The Conference was supported by the Kashmir Valley Poultry Farmers Association and the Jammu Poultry Association. Various stakeholders participated in the Conference and aired their views about the problems and grey areas of the Poultry Industry in the State.
On the occasion, Appreciation Mementos were presented to several farmers for their contribution in this sector.
