The Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC) of the various units of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting today stressed upon the media units to focus upon better synergy and coordination to improve the quality of content.


Chairing the quarterly meeting of the committee at Press Information Bureau Srinagar today, Additional Director General (Region) PIB Srinagar, SN Pradhan said that all media units of the government should ensure that the contents of news and other government related communications should cater to the needs of the target audience. He also said that development related news should be given its due share and efforts should be made to provide it proper space in the programmes of all the media units.

The Chairman IMPCC stated that the purpose of holding IMPCC meeting is not limited to maintaining the Inter Media Group relations but also to understand functional difficulties of different media organizations and finding a solution to the problems confronting them.


He informed the meeting that several schemes and initiatives launched by the central government in the recent past have shown very positive and encouraging response and there is a need to bring forward positive stories. He said that it is extremely important to portray such developments in a manner that the positives of the schemes reach to the common man at the ground level and maximum number of citizens benefit from them.

M Aslam Khan, Assistant Director, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Jammu and Kashmir appreciated the support received from various media units including Doordarshan Kendra and Radio Kashmir Srinagar. He said that the projection of policies and programmes of the Government in an effective manner is possible only because of the active participation of all stakeholders.

G.D. Tahir, Head of Programmes, DDK Srinagar informed the meeting about the extensive range of programmes broadcast by the station to promote the various flagship schemes of the central government with a focus to narrow down the gap between public and Government.

Tariq Rather, Deputy Director (News) AIR Srinagar urged upon the importance of synergy between Central and State media units in view of any important event or visit taking place in the region.

Salman Qazi, Deputy Director, RNU, DDK Srinagar, said that the organisation is trying to make its programmes people oriented. He said that with an increase in local content, the viewership of the channel has increased manifolds.

Ms. Neha Jalali, Deputy Director, Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB), DD News Jammu and PIB Jammu provided a comprehensive overview of the outreach activities carried out by ROB Jammu. She also informed the chair about various activities carried out by DD News, Jammu.

Majid Pandit, Media & Communication Officer, PIB Srinagar provided an overview about the activities carried out by the Bureau. The use of social media has proved vital in taking forward the process of information dissemination and PIB Srinagar is making full use of it.

While concluding the meeting, Ghulam Abbas, Deputy Director (M&C), PIB Srinagar thanked the participants for sharing several important suggestions for strengthening inter-media coordination to effectively publicize flagship programmes and various people centric initiatives.

The meeting was convened to provide a platform to all the stakeholders including media units, implementing and executing agencies as well as departments to highlight their activities. Various issues related to functioning of different media units in the State including the Directorate of Information were discussed.

Altaf Hussain Haji, Director NSO (FOD) RO Srinagar, Shabir Ahmad Dar, News Editor, RNU, DDK Srinagar, and other representatives from various departments also attended the meeting.
