Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union (KVFGDU) has demanded immediate revocation of the order imposing toll tax on under-construction Srinagar-Udhampur highway.
In a statement issued to media here today, KVFGDU said, “National Highway Authority of India started levying taxes on the vehicles moving on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway at toll plaza Setup at Charsoo, Kachachkot in South Kashmir and every vehicle passing through the toll plaza will be charged Rs. 85/-. In this way Rs. 170/- will be charged per day on every vehicle moving to and fro on the highway.”
” The move of levying of road tax is another form of suppression of Kashmiri’s aimed at choking and crippling on Economic front. Such a move will choke the economy of Kashmir and trigger crises in the Valley”, KVFGDU said, adding “such a harsh move on the hands of Governor Machinery will have an adverse impact on Trade and Commerce and as such should be revoked immediately.”
The Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union in its statement said that the J&K was passing through turmoil since long which has already deteriorated Economical situation of the Kashmiri’s and imposing of toll tax will further add deterioration of Economy of the common people of the Valley.
“The Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers cum Dealers Union therefore, demands immediate revocation of the order where under collection of toll tax is issued”, Bashir Ahmad Basheer, Chairman, Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union said.
