Srinagar, July 27: Satya Pal Malik, Governor, Jammu & Kashmir (Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir) today inaugurated the Habba Khatoon PG Girls Hostel and Laboratory-cum-Lecture Block-B of Faculty of Horticulture at SKUAST-Kashmir, Shalimar campus, a statement issued by the university said.
Farooq Khan, Advisor to Hon’ble Governor was also present on the occasion. Prof. Nazeer Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor alongwith officers of the University, students and staff gave a rousing welcome to Governor and Advisor to Governor on their maiden visit.
The Governor also made a round of High Density Apple and Pear Experimental demonstrations of the University and appreciated the excellent work carried out on high density apple and asked the scientists to demonstrate the same in the farmers field.
Thereafter, the Governor made an interaction with students/staff in the newly inaugurated laboratory-cum-lecture block where Prof. Nazeer Ahmed presented brief achievements and initiatives made by the University in the recent past.
Governor was highly impressed with the progress in the field of academic and research and invited scientists and staff to exploit the rich resources for meeting the challenges of production for meeting the requirement of ever-increasing population by raising productivity and improving efficiency across agriculture and allied sectors. He directed the scientists to make breakthrough in improving pulses and oilseed production to save foreign exchequer.
The Governor lauded the good work being done by the University in promotion of research, new innovations and academic discipline and urged upon the staff and students to excel in every arena and directed for strengthening the lab-to-land programme of the University, utilizing KVKs for rapid transfer of technologies to equip the farmers with latest know-how to boost production, farm income and employability.
He also stressed and invited graduates to start their own ventures in CA storages and processing.
