Srinagar, Jan 3: One day farmers’ awareness program cum distribution camp was conducted at Naranag, Tehsil Kangan, District Ganderbal on 31st of December, 2018.

The officer in charge, Professor K.N Qaiser, Principal Investigator Dr S. N .Zafar and Scientist Dr Vaishnu Dutt participated in the program. Dr K.N.Qaiser while delivering his speech stressed upon the farmers to go for Agroforestry systems and in this way they can increase their livelihood and more benefit from the land. He further added that the agro-forestry team will try to adopt this village in totality and each and every concern regarding the agricultural/horticultural  practices will be addressed.

Dr S. Naseem Zafar while delivering his address to the farmers ensured them of every support from our centre. He highlighted the importance of grasses and by this they can overcome the scarcity of fodder thus can have better livestock . Livestock is having an important role in their lives. We can provide them with better seeds so that production levels can be increased.

Farmers showed keen interest in the program and raised their concerns regarding the problems faced by them in the growing of agricultural crops. The main crop there is only maize , and university can provide better seeds of maize. The team distributed around 23 complete agricultural tool kit among 150 farmers. They appreciated the efforts of the team and wished that these programs should be continued in future also. The AICRP-AF team thanked the Professor T.H. Masoodi, Dean Faculty of Forestry who is always  ready to help in the conduction of such programs and is encouraging the team for such programs.
