RTI Movement has suggested that all the branch heads of Jammu & Kashmir Bank be designated as Public Information Officers (PIOs) and Cluster heads as First Appellate Authorities (FAAs) as mandated under RTI law so that people can have easy access to information at grass-root level.

In a statement, Chairman of RTI Movement Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat while  welcoming the decision of Government to order for an inquiry into alleged backdoor appointments and other financial irregularities in the bank has appealed Interim Chairman R K Chibber to implement JK RTI Act 2009 in letter and spirit so that people have easy access to information about the bank.

Mr. Muzaffar appealed Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) to conduct a time bound inquiry vis a vis  J&K Bank and appealed Chairman of the bank to make voluntary disclosure of information on official website of the bank as mandated under section 4 of JK RTI Act 2009.

“Govt had maintained silence over the issue of JK Bank for a long time soon after SAC took decision to declare the bank as public authority by extending ambit of RTI law and State Vigilance Organisation   (now known as Anti Corruption Bureau) to JK Bank. It is never too late. We hope Mr Chibber will work with dedication and ensure transparency and accountability in the bank through the medium of RTI law . We are ready to provide any assistance to Bank in this regard “ said Dr Raja Muzaffar.
