Ziraat Times Weather Monitoring

Srinagar, Oct 7: A major weather system approaching Jammu & Kashmir is likely to result in snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir’s mountains and upper plains on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Ziraat Times’ weather monitoring system.

Analysis of multiple weather data sources indicates that the plains of Kashmir region and parts of Jammu province would experience medium to heavy rainfall. Some Karewa areas are also likely to witness snowfall in Kashmir.

On Tuesday, and to some extent Wednesday, snowfall is likely in Sonamarg, Gund Valley, Gurez, Sadhna Pass, Zanaskar valley, Aru, Pahalgam’s surrounding mountains, Margan Pass-Kishtwar and  Bhaderwah mountains, available data suggests.

Medium snowfall is also likely across the Pirpanjal range, including Khilanmarg, Gulmarg, Tossa Maidan and Peer ki Gali.

Most of Kashmir mountain passes, including Zojila Pass,  Razdan Pass, Sadhna Pass, Peer ki Gali and Margan Pass are likely to be snowbound.

It will all begin from a western disturbance hitting Afghanistan on Monday, resulting in widespread early winter snow in Kabul’s  surrounding northern regions, Tajikistan and Gilgit-Hunza-Baltistan in Pakistan Administered Kashmir.

By early Tuesday, the weather system will be large enough to cover north-east Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan-administered Kashmir and Xinjiang, Jammu & Kashmir state and Himachal Pradesh, resulting in a major dip in temperatures across Kashmir and Jammu divisions.

Farmers, especially the apple and saffron farmers, are advised to plan their activities accordingly.
