Srinagar: Sheep Husbandry Department Bandipora on Monday organized a day-long awareness cum capacity building camp for sheep breeders at Hajin.
District Sheep Husbandry Officer Dr Basharat Amin Kathoo who was the chief guest on the occasion conducted a detailed interaction with the sheep breeders and assured them of every possible support by Sheep Husbandry Department.
During the program, resource persons including Dr NuzhatWali and Dr Umar, Veterinary Assistant Surgeons gave a detailed presentation about various disease found in sheep and the measures to be taken to prevent these diseases besides explaining a detailed schedule of vaccination and dosing. They also interacted with the sheep farmers and answered their questions and queries.
On the occasion, Dr Kathoo apprised the sheep breeders about the employment potential of the sheep sector in tackling the problem of unemployment.
He said a large section of the population of rural areas of the State is directly or indirectly involved in livestock farming. While suggesting the educated unemployed youth of the State to invest in the livestock farming, he said this sector is a major employment generating sector and has a huge potential. He said there are several State and centrally sponsored schemes under which the government can facilitate the youth of the state to start their units.
He said presently there is 1.25 lakh livestock in Hajin-Sumbal Belt and the department is working for increasing their number.
The officials also distributed 120 barseem seed bags among sheep breeders for their livestock.
