Srinagar, July 7: Agriculture Department Kashmir has asked its officials to prevent the use of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides in Gurez valley.
This follows the declaration of Gurez as Kashmir’s first organic valley.
Director Agriculture Kashmir, Syed Altaf Aijaz Andrabi issued the instruction to the Department functionaries on this at a meeting Friday convened to review the implementation status of various key schemes and projects introduced by the Department of agriculture.
Although some other villages in Kashmir have also been declared organic villages, the big question of product certification remains largely unaddressed.
Pertinently, marketing of any organic products, which fetches much higher returns to farmers, depends on certification from the relevant authorities.
