Srinagar, June 18: Agriculture Students Council of SKUAST-Kashmir have appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik to restore SRO-179 and SRO-02 in their original form so as to protect the interests of the agriculture students and research scholars.

In a press statement issued by the Council, the students that while they were “highly thankful that Ziraat Times represented our grievances in its print edition on April 29- May 05, 2019”, they now learn that “the higher authorities in the Agriculture Production Department are proposing a policy called as “Cadre review …..reorganization thereof” (No. Agri/Gaz/Gen/76/2019, dated: 15-05-2019) which seems to handicap the young professionals studying the subject of agriculture in various State Agriculture Universities. “

The statement further reads:

“Though merging the posts of AEA & JAEO into a single post was a good step but the decreasing of vacant posts thereof as mentioned in the letter has created serious concerns in the minds of Agricultural graduates, Post graduate & Ph. D scholars studying in different universities of the country.

The proposal also suggests to make available, the only entry level post in gazette cadre (Agriculture Extension Officer) for 100 % promotion, which is a serious injustice to the graduates, Post graduates & Ph.D scholars studying the subject of Agriculture. The higher authorities earlier in their response to the below mentioned papers had termed the direct quota: promotion ratio in SRO-433 (20:80) irrelevant. Thus it is a shock to know that the ratio in the direct recruitment for the post of AEO in the recent proposal has been further decreased to ZERO percent.

Even Hon’ble Secretary & Special Secretary in the APD had earlier responded positively to our grievances terming our grievances genuine as published in Print version of Greater Kashmir  dated: April, 01 2019 and Ziraat Times dated: 29 April – 05 May, 2019

The Student’s Union repeatedly supports the policies that favor both unemployed youth in agriculture as well as those already recruited in Agriculture Production Department. But some evil elements in department favor only those who are already posted in the department. If the authorities only think of the employees then what is the fun of keeping the subject of agriculture in the leading state agriculture universities like SKUAST-K & SKUAST-J. The career of about hundreds of Agriculture graduates, PG & Ph.D. scholars in the State Agriculture Universities is at risk fearing no vacancy in the department in Gazetted cadre as well as in the non-gazetted cadre for next decade.

We request Hon’ble Governor to please intervene in the matter and bring the SRO-179 and SRO-02 back to its normal position for our right to equal opportunity.”
