Agriculture Department undertook a detailed review regarding the implementation of various components of the action plans of central and state sponsored schemes for the year 2019-20.
” A multi dimensional approach key to sustainable agricultural activities, an efficient and judicious mechanism adopted for implementing various central and state sponsored schemes during the current financial year”, Director Agriculture Kashmir Syed Altaf Aijaz Andrabi said while speaking at the review meeting.
Director Stressed upon the officers to activate their filed staff for educating the farmers regarding the latest technological know how at their farms, so that the farmers get technical guidance regarding ongoing agricultural activities. He directed the officers to gear up their men and machinery for organizing the training-cum-awareness programmes during the active cropping season.
Andrabi directed the officers that during the current season all the beneficiary oriented programmes should be given on the basis of draw of lots and the public representative at the Panchayat level must be taken on board while distributing the inputs and machinery.
He stressed for increasing more areas under protected cultivation and also accommodating more number of farm families under farm machinery component.
To provide the quality hybrid vegetable seeds to the farmers of their own choice from the supplier of their choice, the officers were instructed to monitor the quality of the seed and accordingly transfer the subsidy through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
Director stressed for shifting to high value and exotic vegetables to earn more profits and remain relevant in the country. Instructions were also given for revival of indigenous varieties of rice like Musk Budji, Zag and Kamad. To upgrade the infrastructure of various departmental farms fifteen hi-tech godowns for storage of various seeds will be taken up this year. Regarding improvement of irrigation facilities like Deep bore-wells, tube-wells and shallow-wells will be provided in the current action plan and Integrated Mushroom demonstration-cum-training centre to come up in one of the north districts having the most mushroom growing potential.
Director Agriculture Kashmir said that the Divisional Seed Certification Officer of the department has been notified as the agency to certify the organic products.
All Joint Directors , Divisional Officers, Chief Agriculture Officers and other senior officers were also present during the meeting.
