Restore Qazigund-Baramulla train service: RTI Movement

ZT News Network

Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir RTI Movement has demanded that Qazigund Baramulla rail service “be resumed without any delay as people continue to suffer due to frequent traffic jams on the roads and highways from North to South Kashmir including Srinagar.”

In a statement to Ziraat Times, Chairman RTI Movement Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat said that the train service on Qazigund Baramulla section was stopped after the announcement of lockdown amid COVID 19 pandemic on 21st of March this year and till date the service has not been restored.

He questioned that if train or metro rail service can be operational in other states of India with proper COVID 19 protocol why deny this right to people in Kashmir.

“For almost 9 months the rail service has been suspended in Kashmir valley. People in North, Central and South Kashmir suffer a lot as they face difficulties traveling on the highways where traffic jams have become a norm plus it costs a lot traveling in cabs and taxis. Civilian traffic movement is halted at many places due to movement of army and other paramilitary convoys. Train service would have helped the people , but the same is not resumed due to unknown reasons” said Dr Raja Muzaffar.

He appealed Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Secretary to intervene.
