SRINAGAR:
Around 30,000 seedlings have been produced in the Nursery which shall be grafted during coming season and it is expected that in the year 2022 around 20000 Grafted Walnut plants shall be made available to growers for plantation.

This was stated during a visit of Director Horticulture Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat on Monday to the Walnut Nursery Zawoora established at a cost of Rs 498 lac over a period of three years.

This Nursery is specifically dedicated for the production of Budded/Grafted Walnut plants for which 20 High-Tech Poly Green Houses have been established.

The initiative has been taken by the Horticulture Department after taking note of the decline in the Walnut production considered highly acclaimed produce of the UT that over the years could not grow due to non-availability of quality planting material.

Director Horticulture directed the staff posted in the Nursery to work with zeal and ensure that cent percent targets of plant production are achieved.
The Director later inspected Centre of Excellence Zawoora, being established under MIDH and directed the executing agency to complete the work within timeline so that stakeholders get benefitted.
