Srinagar: To highlight the new notifications and amendments issued under Insecticides Act, 1968 and Insecticides Rule, 1971 issued in January 2018, several insecticide manufacturing companies met Director Agriculture Kashmir (Controller Insecticides), Altaf Aijaz Andrabi here on Friday.
Director Agriculture asked the manufacturing units to ensure the availability of quality pesticides/fungicides in the state for the farmers and to regulate their distribution stocking and sale strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Insecticides Act, 1968 and Insecticides Rule, 1971, an official handout read.
Andrabi instructed enforcement agency of the department to increase vigil and monitoring for eradication of spurious pesticides from the market which otherwise affects the agriculture and allied sectors of the Valley.
He asserted that the pesticide companies having business interest should regulate their business activity strictly in accordance to the provisions of Insecticide Act 1968 and Rules made under, read the handout.
“All pesticide manufacturing companies operating in Kashmir division should maintain their warehouses strictly as per the norms and should also display the detailed list mentioning name, address, contact details of officers outside their warehouse which is lacking in most of the companies. Wholesale/retail pesticide dealers should separate the expired pesticides with a bold label mentioned it outside the packet,” Andrabi averred.
In addition to the manufacturing companies, the meeting was also attended by Deputy Director Law Enforcement Kashmir, Plant Protection Officer Lalmandi, Assistant Director Law Enforcement Lalmandi, and representatives of different Insecticides manufacturing companies operating in Kashmir region, it added.
